Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American blogger and media critic who has been awarded awards for her work, is a feminist blogger. Feminist Frequency is a not-for profit educational site that explores female representations in popular stories of culture - was created and directed by Sarkeesian. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes of women as they are portrayed in popular media. In addition she has a mission to increase awareness about online harassment targeted towards women as well as the marginalized communities of people. With a master's in the field of political and social thinking from York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public speaking engagement and has given talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival and the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Feminist Frequency was created in the year 2009 by Sarkeesian, university student who has been involved in topics related to gender and feminism for a considerable period of time. This ambitious woman planned to launch an internet series that examined gender representation in games, and was then the victim of an online harassment campaign. It was not enough to halt her. In fact, it strengthened her commitment to be a feminist as well as media critique. Many awards have been presented to her as a way of acknowledging her contributions to the field she contributed to.
